Trust & Safety
This page is the plain-language summary for parents, teachers and anyone evaluating DoubtBoard for students. The legally binding documents are the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service; if anything here seems to conflict with them, they win.
What we collect — and what we don’t
- Collected: the name, email and profile photo your Google account shares at sign-in; your date of birth (asked once, to apply under-18 protections); the questions you ask (text and any photos you attach); and, for under-18 paid accounts, a parent/guardian email.
- Not collected, ever: no advertising, no selling or renting of personal data, no covert device fingerprinting — the anonymous free-tier limit uses a plain browser-storage identifier, deliberately chosen over fingerprinting because this product serves minors.
- Your data stays yours: any signed-in user can export everything we hold or delete the account entirely, self-serve, at Your data.
Students under 18
DoubtBoard follows India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, which sets specific duties for children’s data. Concretely:
- Accounts without a recorded date of birth are treated as belonging to a minor until told otherwise.
- No behavioural profiling of minors: product analytics for under-18 (or unknown-age) accounts are anonymised and aggregate-only — no individual tracking, no session recording, no ad profiles.
- Paid subscriptions for under-18 students are set up and paid for by a parent or legal guardian, with a recorded consent trail. Consent can be withdrawn at any time at /consent, which also stops future charges.
Content safety
- Uploaded photos are safety-checked before any AI tutor sees them.
- The tutor is scoped to academics: it declines unsafe or off-topic requests, and for live exam questions it explains method and concepts rather than serving as a cheat sheet.
- Every explanation ends with references (textbook chapters, reputable sources) so answers can be verified, and anything that looks wrong can be reported from the board with one tap — reports reach us directly.
- Math you can trust: every graph and numeric result on the board is computed by our own deterministic math engine, never drawn or calculated by the AI model itself.
Who processes data on our behalf
We use a small set of processors, each under a data-processing agreement or equivalent safeguard: AI inference (Anthropic; and routing via OpenRouter, which we configure to route only to model hosts that do not retain or train on your questions), hosting and database (Railway), product analytics (PostHog), error reporting (Sentry, configured to never receive personal identifiers), payments (Razorpay), and Google for sign-in only. The full list with purposes is in the Privacy Policy.
Security & reliability
- All traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS); data is stored in managed, access-controlled infrastructure.
- Payments are handled entirely by Razorpay — card and UPI details never touch our servers.
- Errors are monitored around the clock, with personal identifiers stripped from error reports by design.
