Doubts, answered the DoubtBoard way.
Each answer builds the intuition first, then the formal explanation, a worked example, the mistakes to avoid, and where to read next — the same structure the animated board uses.
Math
- Why does sin(x) make a wave?sin(x) is the height of a point walking around a circle — track that height as the point goes round and round, and a repeating wave is the only shape it can trace.
- Where does the quadratic formula come from? The quadratic formula is just 'completing the square' done once, in general, on ax² + bx + c = 0 — derive it yourself in five lines and you never have to trust it blindly again.
- Why can't we divide by zero?Division is defined as the reverse of multiplication — and no number times 0 gives 6, so 6 ÷ 0 has no answer, while 0 ÷ 0 has every answer. Both ways, division by zero breaks.
Physics
- Why is the sky blue?Air molecules scatter short-wavelength blue light far more strongly than red (Rayleigh scattering, ∝ 1/λ⁴) — so blue light bounces around the whole sky and reaches you from every direction.
- Why does a projectile follow a parabola?Horizontal motion keeps a constant speed while vertical motion accelerates downward at g — combine 'x grows linearly, y quadratically' and the path is algebraically forced to be a parabola.
Chemistry
- What actually is a mole in chemistry?A mole is a counting unit — 6.022 × 10²³ things — chosen so that a mole of atoms weighs, in grams, the same number as one atom's mass in atomic units. It's the bridge between atoms and the weighing scale.
- Why do atoms form bonds at all?Atoms bond because the bonded arrangement has lower energy than the separate atoms — by sharing or transferring electrons they reach stabler electron configurations, and nature settles into low-energy states.
Biology
- Explain photosynthesis simplyPlants capture sunlight with chlorophyll and use that energy to turn water and carbon dioxide into glucose, releasing oxygen — light reactions capture the energy, the Calvin cycle spends it building sugar.
- What's the difference between mitosis and meiosis?Mitosis copies a cell — one division, two identical daughters, for growth and repair. Meiosis makes gametes — two divisions, four cells with half the chromosomes each and shuffled genes, for reproduction.
